For more than a decade, UNC Health has been engaged in a concerted effort to get its arms around its troves of clinical, financial and operational data, and harness it toward higher-quality and more efficient care delivery.
In this first episode of a three-week series on HIMSSCast, we spoke to UNC Health's System Director For Analytical Solutions Greg Kuhnen, asking him first about some of the basic table stakes for effective data governance. One of his first pieces of advice? Don't call it data governance.
Kuhnen describes the people, process and technology must-haves needed to make an effective analytics program that scales enterprise-wide. And he explained how UNC's years of work with HIMSS Analytics – first with its Adoption Model for Analytics Maturity, and more recently with the updated, outcomes-focused Analytics Maturity Assessment Model – has helped the health system on that journey.
