The DPI test produces results in five minutes, with the screening facility introduced to provide easy access to testing for those commuting into Abu Dhabi.

The eight machines use artificial intelligence and ultraviolet-powered sterilisation to move automatically and scan areas efficiently, the authority said.

The smart device, a prototype by Fab Lab Bahrain, reportedly uses UV-C light that kills or inactivates a range of microorganisms by disrupting their DNA or RNA.

The project aims to optimise cost management, doctor performance, inventory management, and the hiring of top talent, amongst others.

It follows studies confirming that the test is widely inaccurate, giving false negative and positive results, offering an accuracy rate of just 30%.
